The Cabernet Magnum is Riedel's machine-made workhorse: a wide, angular body, a long neck with an outward curve that gives your hand something to grip, and a capacity of about 60 ounces. Riedel sizes it for a magnum, but it is just as good with a single 750 ml bottle, which spreads across the base with plenty of surface exposed.
Riedel's position is that almost any wine, young or old, red, white or sparkling, can gain from decanting. You do not have to agree to find this a useful decanter. It is plain, it pours well, and it is the shape most sommeliers will recognize.
Riedel rates it dishwasher safe but recommends washing by hand, and at 10.6 inches tall it will not fit most dishwasher racks anyway. Skip it if storage space is tight.
The catch. Tall and wide: it needs a proper shelf, and drying the inside takes patience.
