Fiesta was introduced in 1936, designed by Frederick Hurten Rhead, and has been made in Newell, West Virginia, ever since. The company was called Homer Laughlin until 2020, when it sold its restaurant business and that name and became the Fiesta Tableware Company. The listing states it plainly: made in the USA, manufactured in Newell, West Virginia.
The body is fully vitrified and the glazes have been lead-free since the line was reintroduced in the 1980s. It goes in the dishwasher and microwave and the oven to 350°F. The place setting is a 10.5 inch dinner plate, a 7.25 inch salad plate, a 19 ounce bowl and a 10.25 ounce mug.
White is the setting to start with, since it sits with anything and every colored piece can be added later. Skip Fiesta if you want thin, light plates. It is sturdy, heavy restaurant-weight ware, and it looks it.
The catch. Heavy, and the classic rim shape takes more cupboard depth than a coupe plate.
